Cerro Porteño and Fluminense signed a goalless draw (0-0) for the duel that closed the third date of Group A of the Copa Libertadores 2024. The duel played at the La Nueva Olla stadium in Asunción puts more pressure on Colo Colo in its quest to get into the next round of the continental tournament.
In the 32nd minute, Jean, the Brazilian goalkeeper from Cerro Porteño, excelled with a mid-range flight after Germán Cano’s bomb, who almost opened the account for Fluminense with the poisonous shot from first and distance.
Already in the second half came the controversy: Fluminense found the 0-1 goal in the 73rd minute with Santiago Arzamendia’s own goal, but the referee annulled it due to an almost imperceptible handball by Jhon Arias, from Flu.
Obviously the Brazilians complained, but the referee with the help of the VAR upheld his decision three minutes later, leaving Fluminense without celebrating the goal that brought them closer to victory.

Making it clear that the match was even and for either of the two, goalkeeper Fábio dressed as a superhero in the 77th minute to save Robert Piris Da Motta’s header with a brutal block.
It is worth remembering that this past Tuesday, Colo Colo left important points along the way, also with a goalless draw, at home against Alianza Lima for the third date in the same area.
Thus, Fluminense remains the exclusive leader of Group A with 5 units, while Colo Colo and Cerro Porteño share second and third place, both with 4 positives. Alianza Lima is bottom with 2 points.
For the fourth date, Fluminense will visit a Colo Colo that is forced to win this Thursday, May 9. A day before Cerro Porteño will be a foreigner against Alianza Lima in Peru.
