Despicable Me 4 is more than the Minions

After the impressive success of Inside Out 2another tank arrives, another animated franchise in theaters: that of My favorite villain.

With $4.64 billion raised worldwide – and about $6 billion more in merchandising – over the past 14 years, Gru and his helpers, the Minions, have only earned their sympathy.

The latest title in the franchise produced by Illumination and Universal Pictures (Despicable Me 3) was launched far away and long ago, in 2017, while we had Minions: A Villain is Born almost only two years ago.

What are Gru and his wife Lucy up to? In addition to the three little sisters they adopted (Margo, Edith and Agnes), they have their own little son, Gru Jr.. But, and without a but there would be no movie, an archvillain of Gru appears, from the times in which the character he Steve Carell voices him in the original he studied.

Maxime Le Mal (voice of Will Ferrell) loves cockroaches. For another reason than that he likes those insects (what’s more: he is half human, half cockroach), Gru, who is now an agent of the Anti-Villain League, sent him to jail, but Le Mal escaped and seeks revenge. Like in crime movies, the Anti-Villain League relocates Gru and his family to a neighborhood and changes their identities, while the Minions are relocated to work for the League.

Of course the Minions are going to have their own weight, and much more, since a select few transform into Mega Minions, a new team of superheroes (although they appear rarely, they are effective).

Physical and absurd humor

This is the humor of the characters in the saga: crazy, at times crude, and a lot of physical gags. Despicable Me 4 is not a film with so many winks for adult audiences: it is more a film for the little ones to enjoy, which is ultimately who it is intended for.

But unlike the previous My favorite villain, this fourth film has more ideas, better jokes, and a clearly better constructed story. Fans will discover cameos here and there from previous villains.

The Minions are once again one of the attractions of the saga.

Perhaps, in one of those, the return of Chris Renaud to the direction, who had made the original and the first sequel, but not the third, has to do with the general result. Renaud directed one of the shorts about Scrat, the character from another very successful saga here like The ice Ageand the two The secret life of your pets.

They called him again for a reason.

Poppy, the preteen who wants to be a villain, is the character to whom María Becerra lends her voice.Poppy, the preteen who wants to be a villain, is the character to whom María Becerra lends her voice.

Oh: note that there are (few) subtitled copies in some theaters, so you can listen to Steve Carell and Will Ferrell, or you can choose to listen to the voice of Maria Becerra as Poppy, Gru’s new preteen neighbor who wants to be a villain.
