Encouraging Signs That Netherlands Star Will Extend Inter Milan Contract – But Replacement Lined Up In Case

There are encouraging signs that Denzel Dumfries will sign a new deal with Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper notes that the Nerazzurri are nevertheless ready to move for Bologna’s Dan Ndoye if talks fail.

Dumfries is at a bit of a crossroads at Inter this summer.

The Dutchman is currently under contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of next June. He is still on the same four-year deal that he signed when he joined from PSV in 2021.

Therefore, Inter’s intentions are clear.

The Nerazzurri want to extend Dumfries’s deal. Otherwise, they would aim to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in twelve months’ time.

Reportedly, Premier League side Aston Villa are targeting the Dutchman.

However, if Dumfries does accept a contract extension offer from Inter, then he will not be on the market this summer.

There have already been contract talks between Inter and Dumfries’s representatives for several months.

So far, there has not been an agreement on a new deal for the former PSV man.

Reports suggest that the problem is that there is still a gap between Inter’s offer and Dumfries’ demands.

The decisive talks can’t be far away. Dumfries is currently at the Euros with the Netherlands, but once he’s back there will be negotiations.

Dumfries has made it very clear that he’s happy at Inter and he wants to stay.

Therefore, the sense is that it is likelier that the Dutchman will extend than that he won’t.

However, that’s no guarantee that the parties will reach an agreement.

And for that reason, Tuttosport reports, Inter are laying the groundwork for a move to sign Bologna winger Dan Ndoye as Dumfries’ replacement should the contract talks fail.
