Russia warns of NATO nuclear weapons deployment in Poland

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned about the possible deployment of NATO nuclear weapons in Poland. In this sense, he maintained that if this measure were carried out, it would become a priority objective in Russian military planning.

Poland’s President Andrzej Duda expressed the country’s readiness to allow NATO allies to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory, raising concerns in Russia.

According to statements cited by the official TASS agency, this move by the military alliance would not only be considered highly destabilizing and threatening for Russia, but would also make nuclear weapons a priority objective in the country’s military planning.

Following this line, Riabkov highlighted Moscow’s concern about the possibility of NATO carrying out joint nuclear missions in Poland, which would be considered a provocation and threat to regional security. Likewise, he maintained that the debate on the placement of nuclear weapons on Polish territory is a “developing story”, which Russia is following closely.

The statements of the president of Poland

This warning comes in the wake of recent statements by Polish President Andrzej Duda, who expressed the country’s readiness to allow NATO allies to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory. In an interview with Fakt on Monday, April 22, Duda highlighted that Russia’s transfer of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus last year highlighted the need for a response from Poland and NATO.

“If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of the nuclear exchange also on our territory to strengthen the security of NATO’s eastern flank, we are prepared for it. We are an ally in the North Atlantic Alliance and we also have obligations in this sense, that is, we simply apply a common policy,” the Polish president told Fakt.
