President Javier Milei suspended his visit to the Book Fair, initially scheduled for May 12. At that meeting he planned to present Capitalism, Socialism and the Neoclassical trap together with the national deputy José Luis Espert.
According to what he said this Wednesday, he decided to change the place to hold the event because during the negotiations with the Fair authorities they encountered a strong hostility towards him.
“It makes us suspect that there is an issue of sabotaging the presentation and doing it in the Kirchnerist style, in a violent way.“Milei said in an interview with Luis Majul and Esteban Trebucq on radio The Observer.
“They have threatened us that they are going to do things to us, a type of behavior that is inappropriate for the culture and we cannot expose ourselves to being blocked.“added the President.
Alejandro Vaccaro, president of the Book Foundation – in charge of organizing the Fair – had questioned Milei in his opening speech at the traditional culture festival that takes place every year in La Rural. Furthermore, he stated that they did not have the money to pay for the security operation.
The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, had confirmed Milei’s presence at the Fair. Furthermore, he had explained that presidential security depends on Casa Militar and not on the organizers of the editorial meeting.
Finally, this Wednesday the President himself ruled out the possibility. “They are encouraging behavior inappropriate to the culture, the speech he (Vaccaro) gave was very violent and inappropriate for the place, with some quite false issues,” he said.
In previous editions of the Fair, Milei had become one of the attractions with the presentations of his books on economics.
