This Thursday, April 25the District Oversight Office of Bogotá requested a review of the exception of the peak and license plate that hybrid vehicles have in the capital, considering that these “are not friendly to the environment.”

That is why the Oversight Office calls for evaluate whether buyers prefer this type of vehicle for its impact on the planetor if they simply do it to be able to move around every day without restrictions.
“It must be evaluated whether the increase in the number of license plates of these vehicles reflects a genuine preference for cleaner technologies or If it simply constitutes a way to avoid the mobility restrictions of the Pico y Placa, in addition to the tax benefits enjoyed by the hybrid and electric segment; while on the other hand, the true environmental contribution of hybrid vehicles must be analyzed according to their classification,” said Viviana Barberena, district observer.
Likewise, the report delivered by the Oversight Office indicates that this type of vehicles would also have a certain degree of responsibility for environmental pollution in the capital.
”Regarding hybrid cars, although they generate a decrease in consumption and emissionsits operation continues to contemplate the use of fossil fuels. “This scenario, while reducing emissions, raises concerns regarding actual pollution from automobiles,” the report reads.
The entity points out that between 2019 and 2023 the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles decreased; while the number of sales of electric and hybrid vehicles increased significantly.
