Medical students protest against excessive increase in monthly fees

Through a press release, the medical students of the HA Barceló Foundation are organizing themselves in search of official answers about the excessive monthly increase in tuition and for “the total administrative and pedagogical disorganization,” they indicated. A peaceful demonstration is planned for this Friday the 10th in all the Barceló Foundation offices.

In this way, hundreds of students from the three campuses of one of the most famous medical schools in Argentina have come together in recent months with the aim of creating an official student union that can maintain a dialogue with the administration of the institution.

In turn, they specified that “the reasons for dissatisfaction are various and range from the most effective, which are monthly increases, without prior notice, rule or prior explanation, to the lack of basic supplies in the units, such as toilet paper and soap in bathrooms, chairs that break when sitting, and lack of physical space for students to eat during the long day of studying.”

As one student commented: “It happened to me, I was attending class and the chair simply broke. I fell to the ground in a mixture of shame and bewilderment. “I wonder where our money goes.”

At the same time, they highlighted that “the union is already organized with statutes and supported with legal advice. Educational institutions must be clear about the financial investment that students make and cannot increase values without giving a real reason, or prior notice. In this way, the group’s position is to expand and gain strength among the students of the three locations, as well as the empathy of other medical colleagues from other institutions who are going through similar situations.

“Our intention is to talk and find a peaceful way to continue studying and investing in the university we choose to study without feeling exploited,” said Dara, president of the student union.
