Minister of Health, Yair Lapid and Gantz react to video of an arras doctor

A video emerged on social media in which police forces can be seen dragging a doctor who was providing medical help to a protester at a protest in Tel Aviv on Saturday.

According to KAN News, the doctor, Udi Bahrav, was later arrested.

Following the incident, Health Minister Uriel Busso said on Sunday morning: “I seriously consider the detention of Dr. Dr. Udi Baharv while he was treating an injured protester in Tel Aviv.”

He added: “Even in times of stress and heated passions, saving lives and any medical treatment takes priority over the police’s commitment to maintaining public order.

“I call on commanders to investigate the incident, refine procedures and ensure that what we saw last night does not happen again,” Busso concluded.

Lapid and Gantz react

Opposition leader and MP Yair Lapid also commented on the event on Sunday, “There is no explanation, and it is impossible to accept the photos in which police officers brutally beat and drag a doctor providing treatment in the field, even when he identifies himself as a medical professional.”

“This is not Ben-Gvir’s police, but the citizens of Israel. These protesters are our good citizens, and the police’s conduct crossed all limits,” Lapid said.

“The police officers and commanders involved should be summoned for investigation and punished. There will be no discounts,” he said.

Lapid also noted, “We will establish an orderly documentation center on police conduct toward protesters to ensure that information is not ‘lost.'”

War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz said, “Claims of violence by police, with emphasis on the arrest of a doctor while providing medical treatment at a demonstration yesterday in Tel Aviv, are alarming and must be examined and investigated.

“We have excellent police officers, but they, especially police commanders, must remember that their job is to protect citizens and allow freedom of protest,” Gantz added.

“Commanders must act in accordance with the law and not according to the minister’s mood,” he said.
