An urgent meeting with the Minister of Health is being requested by the Health Commission of the Regional Council (CORE) of Valparaíso, in order to expose deep discomfort and concern about what is happening in terms of hospital implementation in the region.

This was pointed out by the president of the aforementioned commission, Roy Crichton, who detailed some of the most serious shortcomings, such as that “at the Pereira Hospital in Valparaíso, Arch C, with 17 years of useful life, is damaged, as is the equipment. of contrast and the operating table, which already has a useful life of 20 years, which means that the waiting list of patients increases progressively in a health facility that serves a population of 450 thousand people.”

Likewise, he explained that “despite the act that was carried out, the Undersecretary of Public Health did not commit to the money for the purchase of land adjacent to the Carlos Van Büren Hospital in Valparaíso, which is necessary to begin the design of the new hospital, where the urgent need for the 8 oncology chairs and the oncology pharmacy continues. We have also learned that for administrative reasons of the Valparaíso – San Antonio Health Service, the third tender that was in progress, for the replacement of a linear accelerator for radiotherapy of oncological patients at the Van Büren Hospital, was dropped, which entails the construction of a bunker, a project that has resources from the Regional Government.”

“Of the 2 mobile mammographs acquired with funds from the Regional Government, one of them has been in a mechanical workshop for many months without being able to repair it and the buses to transport cancer patients from remote areas of the region have not been purchased either,” indicated the regional advisor, adding that “the San Camilo de San Felipe Hospital also presents structural problems, meanwhile patients do not receive adequate care and Health officials are overwhelmed, because they do not have the necessary basic elements.”

The authority stated that it is necessary for “the Minister of Health to fulfill the commitments made, such as having a Study of Disease Burdens in the region as of December of last year, which no longer happened, and respond to what is happening with the ambulances and the hospital equipment.”

“If we, as a Regional Government, had not put $2.3 billion pesos to face the Winter Plan of the Carlos Van Büren Hospital, today they would be unable to face the load of patients in the winter season, which reflects a lack of vision. and financial programming by the central government that is unacceptable,” he said.
