The objective of the meeting was to generate a space for reflection and collective construction of strategies in the educational field on the topic, from a comprehensive approach that involves the active participation of the family.

The educational community of school 4-128 Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, in the city, led by its director Mariana Marino, carried out the workshop “Prevention of Problematic Consumption”, taught by Facundo Cócola, from the Mendoza Provincial Addiction Plan dependent on the Ministry of Health, aimed at the families of fifth-year students, with the aim of knowing the multicausality that leads to consumption and the importance of the family, so that the adolescent gains confidence and talks about these issues at home. With the aim of generating a space for reflection and collective construction of strategies in the educational field for the prevention of problematic consumption, parents were able to clarify doubts and also tell their personal experiences.

The regent Cecilia Gentile accompanied the day; the 5th Year pedagogical coordinator Claudia Schoenfeld; the preceptor Viviana Baldo; the assistant director Rosana Martínez and the technological support was in charge of the librarian, Eloy Bracamonte.

In this sense, the school is a privileged environment as a place of reflection, containment, listening and inclusion that, in addition to providing pedagogical tools, builds practices and knowledge according to the time and context; That is why it becomes an essential space to develop preventive actions.

It should be noted that when the prevention of problematic consumption is discussed at school, the participation of the entire educational community is essential, highlighting the role of students. Furthermore, it is necessary to rethink the adult positioning around consumption and the interventions that are carried out when these situations arise, the commitment of the institution in the construction of collective responses, thought from the logic of care, always being fundamental. Working on its prevention does not require expert knowledge but the decision to be able to build comprehensive responses, systematized over time and from the place that each person occupies within the complex social fabric that constitutes this problem.

In this regard, Facundo Cócola said: “we can mention that ‘problematic consumption’ is that consumption that, whether or not using any chemical substance, constantly negatively affects the physical or mental health of the subject and/or their social relationships. It can manifest itself as excessive consumption of alcohol, tobacco, psychotropic substances – legal or illegal – or produced by certain compulsive behaviors of people towards gambling, new technologies, eating, shopping or any other behavior.

It also addressed the dimensions, functions of consumption, degrees of necessary support, because it is important to talk about this issue in families, intra-family consumption, communication strategies, procedures on how to act in emerging situations, among other topics.

To which he added, “I think it is very important that schools be encouraged to integrate the active participation of families in their proposals, because the prevention of problematic consumption, like any other problem associated with mental health, does not correspond exclusively to a sector of the population.” “But everyone and together we can do something about it to reduce the risks and damages and at the same time develop much healthier health promotion strategies.”

“In this way, when active participation is given to adolescents and families, the opportunities for interpersonal support are greater since creativity when thinking about strategies is enriched and the school acquires a dimension that is not only educational but also comprehensive. that thinks about the person and in their multiple dimensions.”

“In this aspect, the Adolfo Pérez Esquivel school demonstrates a commitment to this comprehensive perspective in its multiple proposals. I appreciate the call from the management team to accompany precisely a comprehensive project and with the perspective of continuing with more meetings of this type,” the official concluded.

For her part, Mariana Marino, highlighted that “the training was very enriching and clear, which allowed us to provide families with guidance and make agreements regarding the care of our young people in relation to problematic consumption, where the interesting thing is networking. , especially the view from the health point of view of these problems that allows us a much more effective approach. Therefore, I believe that schools have to continue working together with families, supported by other institutions through the intervention of professionals specialized in these complex and necessary issues in the context in which we are carrying out our task.”

“Finally, it is essential for our educational community to meet the objective of generating this type of workshops, to generate a space for reflection and collective construction of strategies in the educational field for the prevention of problematic consumption, from a comprehensive approach to health and a rights perspective, through conceptual content and tools in order to guide and accompany both adolescents and families from school,” concluded the director.
