César Luis Menotti, who led the Argentine National Team in the 18-18 World Cup, died this Sunday at the age of 85. The official account of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed the news through social networks.

“The Argentine Football Association regrets to inform with great sadness the death of César Luis Menotti, current Director of National Teams and former World Champion coach of @Argentina”they wrote from the federation.

The historic coach had entered the guard of the Agote de Recoleta Sanatorium (in Buenos Aires) at the end of March due to severe anemia, which was complicated by thrombophlebitis: he was conscious and in a common room, but he was very weak. and for that reason the discharge was postponed until April 10. “He is fine, lucid, and eager to go home now”someone close to him had told Olé shortly after his hospitalization.

César used to avoid visiting doctors until the last minute and that caused him to end up hospitalized because his anemia was significant. In August of last year he had suffered an accident when he fell at his house, which caused internal bleeding, and he had also delayed approaching a guard. When he did it, he had to stay hospitalized for several days to be cured and discharged.

This time, something similar happened. The Director of National Teams of the AFA came with some symptoms and took a while to seek assistance. According to those close to him, he was feeling well and would continue his rehabilitation at home, which included work with a kinesiologist due to the loss of muscle strength that he suffered due to his health problem and rest.
