In Bucaramanga the alarms continue to be raised due to the increase in dengue cases, according to the report of epidemiological week 17, 3,566 cases of people with the disease have been reported.

The neighborhoods where people are getting sick the most are: Provenza, Colorados, San Alonso, Campo Hermoso and San Francisco.

The Secretary of Health of Bucaramanga, Claudia Amaya, warned that the trend of increase is 25%, which worries the authorities.

There are five reported cases of deaths in Bucaramanga of which two are confirmed, one person is 17 and another is 71; two who were confirmed to be 87 and 53 years old, but we requested a review by the National Institute of Health and we have a pending analysis unit of an 83-year-old person,” the official confirmed.

He added, “if we realize the fatalities mainly in older people and the concern is still latent because hospital occupancy is above 85% in all cases, even yesterday we were worried because occupancy in pediatrics was almost reaching 100%.”

With support from the Police, The Bucaramanga Health Secretariat will carry out inspection visits to residential complexes in order to verify that families are carrying out proper control to avoid mosquito breeding sites.

“We are coordinating with the Police to apply the National Police Code, which specifically in article 111 talks about behaviors contrary to cleanliness, the collection of waste and debris and bad housing practices, in literal 14 it talks about allowing the presence of vectors and not carrying out practices to avoid their proliferation, based on that we will apply the sanctions,” indicated the Secretary of Health of Bucaramanga, Claudia Amaya.

The Police have already imposed two summonses in residential complexes for breeding mosquitoes in a swimming pool and a fountain.
