Through the Assistance Unit of the Community Development Directorate of the Municipality, priority will be given to people with reduced mobility and older adults, there are two meters of firewood per family group.

Aysén.- In the town of Villa Mañihuales, the Municipality of Aysén, through the Assistance Unit of the Community Development Directorate, began delivering firewood to vulnerable families, older adults and people with mobility problems. This is thanks to the agreement between the building entity, the Regional Government that finances this benefit and Conaf, the latter in charge of extracting and gathering the natural fuel, widely used in the commune, thus also allowing for the provision of sources of work.
The mayor, Julio Uribe, valued the work together with other organizations and the willingness to permanently support this type of initiatives by the Regional Governor, Andrea Macías and her entire Council.
“We began delivering firewood to neighbors, giving priority to our seniors, to people with disabilities, there are two meters of firewood that goes to each one, which is very useful in these very cold days. Thank the Regional Governor Andrea Macías and her entire team, because this occurs through the agreements that we signed between Conaf, the Municipality and the Regional Government. We should also highlight the work of Conaf here in Mañihuales, as well as in Aysén through its provincial head Gabriela Gómez, with whom we have joint work in different areas.”
From the provincial headquarters of the National Forestry Corporation, Gabriela Gómez, said that there was a lot of concern about delivering the firewood, considering the weather conditions and the importance this has for many families. “We were all eager to deliver this firewood, because we understand that winter has already set in and the need for this to be delivered. Happy on that side and also happy for the work that people have done, because we are delivering increasingly dry firewood. We are planning so that next year people can have dry firewood before winter begins and in that sense there is an effort by all the people who work here so that this can be accomplished.”
Don Rodelindo said that this is a great help, considering the current price per meter of firewood, stating that it is, “excellent, now that it is so cold and short of firewood that it had been, I bought some firewood but it was green, I added the embers and it went out, so, this came very timely, very good help, because, as it is, the price is not enough with the pensions. Days ago I bought 50 thousand per meter, 100 thousand in lenga firewood and that is just amazing. Therefore, grateful for what they do, good help for older adults, which we need a lot.”
The resident of Mañihuales, Luris Silva, described this support in firewood as, “a nice gesture made by Conaf and the Municipality of Aysén. So, very grateful for this little firewood that comes to us every year, therefore, many thanks to the Municipality and Conaf.”
More than 2 thousand meters of firewood are expected to be delivered throughout the Aysén commune, to vulnerable families, older adults and people with reduced mobility.
