Favors in the Judiciary

According to a report by Ciper, in 2021, Juan Pobleteformer minister of the appeals courts of Santiago and Copiapó, was transferred to the Copiapó Court of Appeals after a summary for his delay in drafting rulings.

Poblete’s cell phone chats, which are now in the hands of the Prosecutor’s Office, reveal that in April of that year the supreme Mario Carroza wrote to him, who sent him a message from magistrate Antonio Ulloa, in which he asked to favor a candidate for notary in Tierra Amarilla.

A year earlier, the then supreme Lamberto Cisternas had asked Poblete for his vote for “a friend who is applying to be a notary in Barnechea”.

Poblete left the Judiciary at the beginning of 2023. Months before, concerned about the economic situation he would face, he spoke with Carroza about a “offering” that the notary Francisco Leiva, brother of deputy Raúl Leiva (PS), made to him.

The chats reveal that notary Leiva leaked to Poblete parts of the removal notebook opened against him and informed him that “several supreme officials” wanted to help him.

Among the 1,571 chats that the Investigative Police (PDI) detected on one of Poblete’s cell phones, there are conversations where favors are exchanged between well-known figures in the judicial world.
