In May, San Luis Potosí ranked fifth nationally in terms of highway merchandise theft, accounting for 6 percent of the total registered crimes, according to data from AI27.

AI27 is a Mexican company focused on prediction, alert and reaction to secure merchandise and operators throughout the Mexican Republic, using an artificial intelligence algorithm that allows organizations to predict thefts in the sector with 97% effectiveness.

Puebla leads the list of states with the highest incidence of this crime, with 20% of robbery attempts; followed by the State of Mexico with 18%; Jalisco with 14% and Guanajuato with 10%.

At the local level, the most dangerous sections to travel are the Ejido Las Moras in Mexquitic de Carmona and the highway to Matehuala.

Héctor Polti, spokesperson for AI27, mentions: this has led us to test more technologies that help us prevent instead of confront, to mitigate the problem.

Technology, he adds, “plays a crucial role and what we do in terms of artificial intelligence and data analysis is fundamental. By analyzing millions of data collected over years in Mexico, we can find patterns and effectively predict the probability of theft, allowing us to be much more preventive.”

In March, AI27 conducted an internal study where the impact of cargo transportation theft was correlated with inflation, specifically in the grocery sector. The study revealed that when there is a trend of increasing theft in cargo transportation for two or three consecutive months, in the third month inflation in grocery products increases by 8%. This means that even a minimal increase in transportation theft can have a significant impact on final consumer prices.
