Inés María Chapman Waugh, Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba; and Eduardo Martínez Díaz, Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, presided over the national event for World Environment Day, held in the eastern province of Las Tunas, in which the most outstanding territories in the country in the defense of our ecosystem.
Eduardo Martínez Díaz, Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) of the Republic of Cuba, highlighted the real possibility of promoting the country’s forested areas, and improving sustainable management actions for land, water and other natural resources.
Martínez Díaz made the statement at the national event for World Environment Day held, this June 13, in the eastern province of Las Tunas as a reward for his performance in this sensitive area linked to the survival of the human species.
The Minister of Citma supported his statements with the results exhibited by this territory, the most outstanding in the nation; and, its similar ones from Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus, Granma and Matanzas, highlighted for their contribution to the Cuban State programs that promote the care of the natural environment, and the Matanzas town of Martí, which received the national status of Pro-Environmental Municipality.
In the specific case of Las Tunas, Martínez Díaz recognized its vanguard position in the implementation of a coherent work system that fully responds to the national environmental strategy on issues such as the management of protected areas, environmental education, administrative control of aggressive waste discharges, hazardous waste streams and the procedures carried out in economic entities.
In this context, other local achievements were distinguished in the management of the six protected areas of national interest and in the confrontation with drought, an event that repeatedly hits this area, the least favored by rains in the country and under threats. of desertification, whose struggle identified the day of commemoration that concludes on the 15th.
During the celebration, the National Union of Education, Science and Sports Workers awarded the Juan Tomás Roig honorary distinction to five members of the institution’s labor groups with more than 20 and 25 years of outstanding and uninterrupted work in this sector. .
