They operate in several European countries, China and Australia. In pursuit of improving the collective transportation system of populous and extended cities, this electric bus or tram systemwhich do not require railways and can even have autonomous driving, are in the process of being launched in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
Although Mendoza has been a pioneer in the use of this technology since 2019, there are also in San Juan, Santiago del Estero, Córdoba and Rosario, but improvements can always be applied to this system. One of them could be the possibility of having larger electrical formations – and not individual units – that circulate on specially designed tracks.
Attentive to the various difficulties that public transportation has suffered in the country, from the unusual state subsidy that has sustained it for years, to the delayed and difficult modernization of the bus park, it is an interesting option to evaluate with the aim of improving the public transport.
These are modern, non-polluting, easy-to-use units that only require marked tracks on the floor, do not need urban infrastructure or catenaries, and their route can be easily changed.
This implementation could complement the traditional and subway or tram systems that exist in different corners of the country.
The same understanding must be addressed, among other issues, regarding the security policy in the digital aspect, surveillance cameras, digital ring and general monitoring center.
In pursuit of modernity, efficient service to the citizen who uses the public transport and contributing to a cleaner environment without pollution, modern electric buses or trams, malleable in size and quantity, constitute a convenient option to be evaluated to provide a more effective and efficient option for collective transportation of citizens throughout the country.
Electrical buses: a debt that only a handful of provinces paid off
In addition to Mendoza, San Juan, Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero and Córdoba, which already implement them, different Argentine provinces are working on projects that contemplate the acquisition of electric buses.
In the case of Mendoza, the province is a pioneer in the implementation of sustainable mobility and currently more than 20 electric units circulate that serve as support for the Metrotranvía routes, today also in the process of expansion and considered a unique means of transport in its type in the country.
