Among other details, the prosecutor’s office indicated that the main suspect, Juan Carlos Alegre, had been investigated since 2011 by the Oral Court of Salta. Meanwhile, the other person investigated, Carina Roxana Flores, began to be closely followed by the Neuquén investigations in 2013. “They carried out commercial operations in order to put money of illicit origin into circulation, with the purpose of hiding their origin and integrating them to the formal economic circuit under the appearance of legality, during the period between 2013 and 2016,” the federal accusers highlighted at the time of the initial accusation.

Buy and sell vehicles

Regarding the evidence, the federal prosecutor’s office highlighted the wiretapping of Alegre and Flores and a forceful report from the Financial Information Unit, which analyzed the assets of the two defendants. Likewise, the two drug traffickers were the subject of an investigation by the Money Laundering Division of the Argentine Federal Police, which, for example, in the case of Alegre could not justify with his income the ownership of four vehicles, the transfer of significant amounts of money and maintain an expensive standard of living.

The analysis that the Police did regarding Flores’ assets was not very different from that of Alegre and they did not find “income from commercial operations, and could not justify how he acquired the assets that make up his assets.”

For the prosecution, Alegre and Flores were co-authors of the crime of laundering and both were in charge of buying and selling vehicles that came from an illicit origin.

In this way, the two drug traffickers from Centenario were sentenced to unified sentences of 6 years in prison in the case of Alegre and Flores, to 5 and a half years in effective prison. The confiscation of three of the seized vehicles was also ordered.

Narcos with different precautionary measures

Neuquén drug traffickers who are serving sentences for violating Law 23,737 go through different situations. On the one hand, Juan Carlos Alegre is housed in Penitentiary Complex I of Ezeiza at the disposal of a federal court in the Buenos Aires suburbs. Meanwhile, Carina Roxana Flores has the benefit of house arrest, in a home located in the La Costa neighborhood, in the Rio Negro city of General Roca.

Alegre and Flores were investigated when they were at a home on Suyai Street, in Centenario, where a raid was carried out in 2016.

During the process, the defendants refrained from testifying about the money laundering accusation and the prosecutor’s office began to gather various pieces of evidence.

At the close of the investigation, the intervening parties agreed to carry out an abbreviated trial and the sentences were agreed upon, which were validated by the Federal Oral Court of Neuquén during a hearing held days ago.
