The “Luis Eduardo Villegas López” 16K Athletic Race is named after the person who first ascended to the top of the majestic Piedra de Guatapé, in a historical event that this famous Antioquian character carried out 70 years ago.
The competition, which takes place at an altitude of 1,925 meters above sea level, will take place on Sunday, July 14 in its second edition. The first winners of the test, in 2022, were Jeison Sánchez, from Guarne, with a time of 53:39, and the Libardo’s Team from Toledo, Johana Echavarría, with 1:06:01.
The 16K “Luis Eduardo Villegas López”, organized by El Centro Turístico La Piedra, is scheduled in both branches, female and male, for the Elite (18 to 39 years), Master (40 to 49 years) and Plus (50 to 49 years) categories. 70 years).
With the registration payment, which has a value of 60,000 pesos, the athlete receives an excellent Kit that includes a tula, t-shirt (differentiated by color for the three categories), finisher medal, competition number with chip included, certificate of participation and insurance policy.
Added to this are wardrobe services, bathrooms, guided warm-up, electronic timing, photographic registration and hydration and provisioning.

The prize for the 2024 edition amounts to 30 million pesos and will be distributed among the athletes who occupy the first six places in women and men, in the three categories indicated above.
Additionally, runners who place seventh to tenth receive complimentary passes for entry to the top of La Piedra. Likewise, there will be gift raffles among all participants.
The delivery of the kits will be made in Medellín, Rionegro, Marinilla and El Peñol. It is worth clarifying that in Guatapé, at the La Piedra Tourist Center, kits will only be delivered to athletes arriving from other departments, for whom delivery will be organized between 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning.
Finally, to facilitate travel from Medellín and other municipalities, the organization is taking steps with the North Terminal to guarantee the flow of vehicles that allow the timely arrival of athletes to the La Piedra Tourist Center in Guatapé. The cost of transportation is assumed by each athlete.
