“Way to my ancestors II” It is the result of the reflection of the project that in its first stage concentrated on research (2021-2022) linked to the Kawésqar people, in the territories that include the area between Coyhaique and Tórtel. There arises the concern to continue delving into the links that existed between all these ancestral societies that inhabited and inhabit Patagonia, as well as their cosmogony and the colonial weight that falls on them.

For it, Carolina Aguero focused its efforts on advancing further south, investigating territories inhabited by the Selk’nam and Yagán peoples, with the interest of discovering and experiencing the life of these peoples in greater depth, mounting an exploratory trip and reconnaissance of the Punta area Arenas and Tierra del Fuego. Trip in which contact and collaboration with the historian María Vanessa Stevani was maintained and which made it possible to have extra information for the research that accompanies this adventure.

The result of this artistic research results in the production of several installation, photographic and audiovisual pieces, which reflect the artist’s vision in which she transmutes the exploratory experience of the territory into a contemporary visual poetic language, which highlights four present axes. in ancestral life and culture such as the connection with water, subsistence and collectivity, rituality through sacred stones and finally colonial intervention.

What is notable about this latest work by Carolina Aguero It is its vindictive spirit, centered on a framework of observation, recognition of the existence and cultural survival of the ancestral peoples of Patagonia, giving us a look that crosses the historical and the particular, of a history buried by the colonial machinery.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m. and will be open to the public until Friday, June 21 in the Laboratory Room of the Valparaíso Cultural Park – Former Prison, located on the third level of the Diffusion Building. It can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. It is suitable for all audiences and entry is free.
