The Mayor’s Office of Cali, with the support of the Metropolitan Police, continues to develop inspection, surveillance and control (IVC) operations in different sectors of the city.

  • So far in 2024, district authorities have closed 15 establishments due to inadequate waste management.

District authorities imposed four sanctions to a commercial establishment located in the La Flora neighborhood (Commune 2), in the north of the city, due to recurrence of inadequate waste management.

In that order of ideas, the Metropolitan Police applied closing measurewhile the Environmental Police imposed a type four fine for their behavior contrary to coexistence, whose total value to be paid is 32 current legal daily minimum wages ($1,386,666, approximately).

In turn, the Secretariat of Security and District Justice, through officials from the Undersecretary of Inspection, Surveillance and Control, determined a measure of suspension of economic activity for five days. At the time of the visit, they evidenced improper use of public space with the extension of economic activity through enclosure and installation of elements, as well as the lack of documentation.

Finally, the Administrative Department of Environmental Management (Dagma) sanctioned with preventive measure, whose value has an approximate cost of $741,000. In addition, the offender must face a sanctioning process. The Law 1333 of 2009 establishes economic sanctions for those who improperly dispose of waste, ranging from a current legal minimum wage ($1,300,000) and 5,000 SMLV ($6.5 billion).

According to the environmental authority of Cali, despite the recommendations provided during a previous visit, the administration of this business insisted on improperly disposing of its waste on public roads, affecting the community in the sector.

Diego Benavides, leader of the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management group, explained that during the inspection, surveillance and control visit (IVC) and after confirming the violation, we proceeded with the preparation of a technical report which will be delivered to Legal area of the Dagma for the initiation of a sanctioning process.

“The community should not confuse understanding with permissibility. Although Dagma officials, in initial visits, provided recommendations and not sanctions, that does not mean that we are going to remain handcuffed and allow the possible offender to affect their community. And I clarify, our objective is not to affect the merchant”Benavides said.
