Five new tremors were registered this June 21, 2024 in the municipalities of Los Santos, Santander; Ábrego, Norte de Santander and Murindó, Antioquia. The magnitude of the earthquakes varied from 2 to 3.3.

According to Colombian Geological Service, The seismic events began at 12:30 pm and 12:35 pm with two tremors in Los Santos, Santander.

The first of the reports established that the earthquake had a magnitude of 2.5 and a depth of 145 kilometers. According to the entity, the earthquake occurred in the municipalities of Los Santos, Zapatoca and Betulia.

Five minutes later, another tremor was recorded that took place in Los Santos, Jordán and Zapatoca. On this occasion, the magnitude was 2 with a depth of 142 kilometers.

It is important to highlight that this territory of Santander is known as the second most active seismic nest in the world.

In fact, this municipality, with about 13,000 inhabitants, is located in the middle of the Chicamocha canyon and those who live there are accustomed to the daily shaking.

Not to mention that Colombia is located in an area where various tectonic plates converge, which is why it has high seismic activity.

Around five after six in the afternoon, the Service reported another series of tremors. The earthquakes were felt in Ábrego, Murindó and Los Santos.

The first was reported in Norte de Santander with a magnitude of 3.3. According to the entity, the movement occurred at 5:22 in the afternoon with a depth of 165 kilometers. So far, no material or physical damage has been reported after the earthquake.

Minutes later, at 5:43 pm an earthquake was reported in Murindó, Antioquia, with a shallow depth and a magnitude of 2.4.

Finally, at 6:27 in the afternoon, another tremor occurred in Los Santos, Santander of 2.4 magnitude and 137 kilometers deep, which would have also been felt in Jordán and Betulia.
