The Resolution No. 46/00 established a series of health requirements for the import of poultry products to Argentina. However, with the advancement of international regulations and the evolution of avian diseases, considered it necessary to review and update these requirements. The repeal of this resolution is consistent with the recommendations of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code of the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO).

The health requirements established in Resolution No. 46/00 included requirements for diseases that are no longer on the WHOA lists. Therefore, these requirements should not be a reason for health certification for exchanges of fresh poultry meat and by-products. Consequently, SENASA has decided to repeal Resolution No. 46/00, thus updating the regulatory framework in accordance with current international recommendations.

The new resolution, signed by the Secretary of Bioeconomy, will come into force the day after its publication in the Official Gazette, marking a significant change in the poultry health management of the country. The adjustment in the regulations also includes the review of the epidemiological situation of exporting countriesaligning health requirements with current international regulations.

The permanent legal service of the Bioeconomy Secretariat has reviewed and approved the corresponding intervention for the implementation of this new resolution. The decision to repeal Resolution No. 46/00 is related to ensure health regulations are up to date and are effective to protect poultry health in Argentina.

The adjustment in regulations also includes the review of the epidemiological situation of exporting countries, aligning health requirements with current international regulations (Andean)

The evaluation and authorization process of countries exporting fresh poultry meat and by-products free-range to Argentina is rigorous. According to Resolution No. 46/00, countries whose manufacturing process does not ensure viral inactivation must comply with the provisions of Resolution No. 446/97, answering a epidemiological questionnaire.

SENASA, through the National Directorate of Animal Health, analyzes the responses to these questionnaires and carries out a evaluation of the risk associated with the importation of these products. Based on this evaluation, a list of countries authorized to export meat and fresh poultry by-products to Argentina.

The Avian Influenza It is one of the diseases that requires particular attention. According to WHOA recommendations, it is essential to define and classify this disease correctly. Some subtypes of the Avian Influenza virus are classified as notifiable diseases due to their high danger and contagion capacity, while other subtypes do not require mandatory reporting.

Likewise, the Newcastle disease (NCD) It is another relevant pathology for the poultry industry. The recommendations of the WHOA to recognize a country or zone as free of NCD should be considered to evaluate health condition of fresh poultry meat and by-product exporting countries.

From SENASA they assured that “they will continue working on the preparation of lists of countries authorized to export poultry meat to Argentina, thus guaranteeing compliance with health standards and protecting national production.”
