The privatizations of Airlines, Post Office and public media were close to falling

President Javier Milei’s privatization plan received a hard blow when it was revealed that the bloc We Make the Federal Coalition (HCF), led by Miguel Ángel Pichetto, will not endorse the inclusion of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Correo and Radio Televisión Argentina, within the framework of the discussion of the Bases law that will be voted on next Thursday in the Chamber of Deputies.

On this Monday afternoon, the Deputy Chief of Staff, José Rolandi, and the Secretary of Strategic Regulatory Planning, María Ibarzábal Murphy, met in the office of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, with representatives of the ruling party blocs. and the dialogue opposition, to advance on the fine print of the rulings of the Bases law and the fiscal package.

The meeting began after 5:30 p.m., while the Budget commission was in session. The negotiation was attended by Silvia Lospenatto (PRO), Silvana Giudici (PRO), Gabriel Bornoroni (LLA), José Luis Espert (LLA), Santiago Santurio (LLA), Nicolás Mayoraz (LLA), Nadia Márquez (LLA), Karina Banfi ( UCR), Carla Carrizo (UCR), Pamela Verasay (UCR), Juan Manuel López (CC), Oscar Zago (MID).

While on behalf of the Hacemos Coalión Federal bloc, the leader of the space Miguel Ángel Pichetto and Emilio Monzó, Nicolás Massot, Oscar Agost Carreño, Margarita Stolbizer, Esteban Paulón, Juan Brügge and Francisco Morchio participated.

In the meeting that took place on the first floor of the Legislative Palace, the opposition confirmed to the ruling party that it will endorse the smaller privatization scheme that was reflected in the opinion that was approved in the Senate.

In this way, La Libertad Avanza could be left without enough votes to promote the privatization of the flag airline, the official mail and the public media, objectives that have been in the sights of President Javier Milei since he assumed power in the Casa Rosada. and which was transmitted in recent days by the Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos.

As it is, the final decision will be in the hands of Unión por la Patria, which does not want to have anything to do with any type of privatization. The bloc led by Germán Martínez finds itself in a moral dilemma, in a dead end, given that to avoid the handover of Airlines, the Post Office and the public media, it must, paradoxically, support the privatizations of other companies such as Aysa, Nucleoléctrica, Corredores Viales, Belgrano Cargas, SOFSE, YCRT, Energía Argentina, Intercargo.

This is because if Unión por la Patria, having to choose between the reduced version of privatizations of the Senate and the expanded version of Deputies, decided to abstain, the position of insisting on the one that came out of the Lower House would most likely win the vote.

According to Noticias Argentinas, the commitment of the Federal Coalition with the Government goes as far as accompanying the rescue of the return of Profits and the reduction of Personal Assets, two initiatives that are found in the Law of Fiscal Measures.

But with regard to the Base Law, they will respect the terms of the Senate sanction and will not insist on aspects of the half sanction of Deputies as the UCR and the PRO will do.

In this sense, they are also not going to support the elimination of the pension moratorium, an article that was withdrawn from the opinion before it was voted in general in the Senate.

We justify their support for insisting on the Deputies’ restitution of Profits and the reduction of Personal Assets in the fact that they were in the opinion that was generally approved in the Senate, before those specific articles fell into particular treatment.

As established by official call, this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. a plenary session of the three committees of General Legislation, Constitutional Affairs and Budget and Finance will be held, to rule on the Bases and fiscal package.

On Thursday, meanwhile, a special session is scheduled to be held to vote on both initiatives, although we still have to wait for the official summons from the Presidency of the Lower House to confirm the call to the venue.
