The Argentine coach Fermín Calvo has shared his impressions about the Challenger ATP Open tennis tournament that takes place in Ibagué and brings together 80 athletes from 15 countries at the Sports Park Racquet Complex.
Calvo Barceló highlighted the beauty of the environment and the quality of the organization. «The truth is that it is a very nice tournament. To begin with, the view you have when you are on the courts is incredible, so it makes everything a little nicer being inside,” he said.
The coach also praised the attention received from the organizers. “The truth is that everyone was very attentive to making us feel very comfortable and more than anything the players are constantly asking you all the time to see if you need anything and that is very important so that the tournament can develop well,” he commented.
On the other hand, he stressed the importance of maintaining the calendar despite inclement weather and changes in climate. “Yesterday, despite the rain, we were able to finish the day, which is also important so that there is no delay and the truth is that the Ibagué Challenger did very well,” he said.
Regarding the novelty of the championship in this city, the coach expressed: “I found out that it is the first time they have organized a tournament of this type, so, well, I think they are up to the task of continuing to organize this type of tournaments.”
In addition, the Argentine spoke of the high technical level of the participants, especially the local players. «So far, from what I saw on the first day of qualifying, a very high level. “I myself was surprised by the level of some Colombian boys who received an invitation to qualify,” he said.
And he concluded by saying: «I believe that anyone can beat anyone and it also serves so that many boys who perhaps do not have the chance to play this type of tournament, receiving the invitation, can measure themselves against players who are already inserted in the professional circuit. ».
