The community of El Bagre, Antioquia, is on alert due to the frequent threats made by illegal armed groups in the rural area of the municipality. According to local reports, merchants and the civilian population have received direct intimidation from the ELN, the FARC and the Gulf Clan, which has generated a climate of fear and concern.
These armed groups are intimidating the population into adopting certain behaviors, such as opening or not opening their businesses, which affects the economic rights of citizens and owners, as well as their supply.
This risk scenario was warned in September 2023 through an early warning issued by the Ombudsman’s Office, however, there has been no timely reaction from the national government to protect the community. Thus, the entity made an urgent call to local, regional and national authorities to take necessary and efficient actions to eliminate the dangers that threaten the fundamental rights of the population, which lives in fear and demands institutional attention.
Finally, he reiterated the need to guarantee the right to non-repetition, since this community has been recognized as a subject of collective reparation, due to the different victimizing events that its inhabitants have suffered.
