The Colombian Foreign Ministry repudiated the attempted coup d’état that is brewing in Bolivia at the hands of a dismissed general. They requested that constitutional avenues be restored and that respect for human rights prevail.
“The Government of the Republic of Colombia strongly repudiates the actions of some units of the Army of the Plurinational State of Bolivia in the vicinity of the Government Palace in the city of La Paz, which threaten the breakdown of the constitutional order in that country and seriously attack against democracy and the stability of the region,” the Colombian State said in a statement.
On this Wednesday afternoon, a group of the Bolivian Armed Forces – commanded by the dismissed general, Juan José Zúñiga – took over the Casa Grande del Pueblo, headquarters of the Government of Bolivia. The apparent coup general even pointed out that in the next few hours there will be a new inauguration and that changes are coming in the ministerial cabinet of President Luis Arce.
“Colombia stands in solidarity with the brother people of Bolivia and its president, Luis Arce, and demands that the institutional channels of dialogue and respect for human rights be restored,” added the Colombian Foreign Ministry.
