Secretary of the Nariño government announces measures to restore tranquility in El Remolino, Taminango

The Secretary of the Government of Nariño, Benildo Estupiñán, announced that, with the support of the Military Forces, they will seek to restore tranquility and peace in the town of El Remolino, after the attack that occurred over the weekend.

He said that despite the recent violent acts, the scheduled festivities will continue as a symbol of resistance and commitment to territorial peace. This Sunday the mayor of Taminango, Fernando Latorre Calvache, announced the postponement of the popular festivals.

Estupiñán expressed that the insurgency or terrorists will not be allowed to prevail in their objective of destabilizing the region. “We are going towards territorial peace, we are going towards total peace,” he stated, while reporting on the burial of a uniformed man who fell in the recent attack, for which the person responsible has not yet been identified.

The official stated that threats have been reported to other police stations in the region and in the department of Cauca. Although information has been received about intimidating pamphlets in municipalities such as Tumaco, it is suspected that these could be apocryphal.

The government secretary stressed the importance of the ongoing investigation to confirm current hypotheses and clarify recent events.
