An exhibition of contemporary Italian cinema returns to Colombia in 2024, after a successful first edition in 2023 in Bogotá. The ‘Italian Screens’ film event will expand to two Colombian cities: Bogotá and Medellín, presenting a selection of ten outstanding films from current Italian cinema.

Screenings will begin at the Cinemateca de Bogotá from June 29 to July 7 and will continue at the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (MAMM) from July 11 to 14. The initiative has been promoted by Roberto Stabile, project manager in the General Directorate of Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture of Cinecittà and has the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Italian International Cooperation.

The event will be held through the collaboration of several institutions: the Italian Embassy in Colombia, the Italian Institute of Culture of Bogotá, the Bogotá Audiovisual Market (BAM), the Cinemateca of Bogotá and the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín.

According to Michele Cavallaro, director of the Italian Institute of Culture of Bogotá, The exhibition includes prominent Italian filmmakers such as Bellocchio, Moretti, Rohrwacher and Cortellesi. Cavallaro highlighted: “I am really happy with this, our second edition (…). I believe that this year the Colombian public will have the opportunity to enjoy the best that Italian cinema has produced in the last year.”

This series of screenings represents a unique opportunity for Colombian audiences to enjoy the best of contemporary Italian cinema. The diversity of the selected films aims to offer a deep and diverse look at recent Italian audiovisual production and its evolution in the global cinematographic context.

The selection of films that will be presented in Bogotá and Medellín was in charge of the writer and film theorist Alessandra María Merlo, who was in charge of curating the audiovisual exhibition for Colombia, as in the first edition of the ‘Italian Screens ‘.

In the selection of the audiovisual sample, three films directed by women stand out. These are the filmmakers Paola Cortellesi, Alice Rohrwacher and Margherita Vicario.

  • The kidnapping of the Pope (Rapito), by Marco Bellocchio (2023). It will be presented in Room 3 of the Cinemateca of Bogotá, on June 29 at 4:00 pm, and in Room 3 of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on June 30 at 4:30 pm
  • We will always have tomorrow (C’è ancora domani), by Paola Cortellesi (2023). It will be presented in the Capital Room of the Bogotá Cinematheque, on June 29 at 7:00 pm, and in the Capital Room of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on July 3 at 8:00 pm
  • The best is yet to come (Il Sol dell’Avvenire), by Nanni Moretti (2023). It will be presented in Room 2 of the Bogotá Cinematheque, on June 30 at 2:30 pm, and in Room 2 of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on July 4 at 4:00 pm
  • Adageby Stefano Sollima (2023). It will be presented in Room 2 of the Cinemateca de Bogotá on June 30 at 4:30 pm, and in the Capital Room of the Museum of Modern Art in Medellín, on July 4 at 5:00 pm
  • The chimera (The chimera), by Alice Rohrwacher (2023). It will be presented in the Capital Room of the Bogotá Cinematheque on July 1 at 4:00 pm, and in Room 2 of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on July 5 at 7:00 pm
  • Disco Boy, by Giacomo Abbruzzese (2023). It will be presented in Room 2 of the Bogotá Cinematheque, on July 1 at 4:00 pm, and in the Capital Room of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on July 5 at 5:30 pm
  • Luboby Giorgio Diritti (2023). It will be presented in Room 2 of the Cinemateca of Bogotá, on July 3 at 7:00 pm, and in Room 3 of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on July 5 at 4:00 pm
  • Umberto Eco: The library of the world, by Davide Ferrario (2022). It will be presented in Room 2 of the Bogotá Cinematheque on July 3 at 4:00 pm, and in Room 3 of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on July 6 at 5:00 pm
  • Glory!, by Margherita Vicario (2024). It will be presented in Room 2 of the Bogotá Cinematheque, on July 4 at 7:00 pm, and in the Capital Room of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on July 6 at 8:00 pm
  • Scarlet (The Scarlet Sail), by Pietro Marcello (2022). It will be presented in Room 2 of the Cinemateca of Bogotá, on July 6 at 6:00 pm, and in Room 3 of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín, on July 7 at 6:30 pm
