Colombian complains about the health system in Germany

Laura, who was recently hospitalized for severe pneumonia, highlighted notable contrasts between both systems. “I can’t believe that the health system is better in Colombia than in Germany,” Laura said.

Upon arriving in Germany, the young woman had to go to the emergency room at the hospital, and although the experience in Colombia was positive, they noticed several significant differences with respect to the German health system.

“Since I’ve been in Germany, I’ve been sick constantly, so I know what I’m talking about,” Laura said. “You have to ask for the tests, that is, you go to the doctor and you have to say ‘Sir, do me a favor and give me this test.’ In other words, it is your turn to ask for the exams.”

Furthermore, Laura mentioned that In Germany, prescribed medications are not always provided, unlike in Colombia, where they are generally included along with the doctor’s consultation.. “Here we have had to buy medicines,” she lamented.

Another notable difference was the wait time for medical appointments. As stated by the man accompanying the young woman in the video: “I asked for an appointment in January and they gave it to me for May.”

Laura also reflected on emergency care policies in both countries. “In Germany, if you go to the hospital because you feel too bad, otherwise you are literally dying, you don’t get treatment,” she explained.

Finally, he revealed that at the hospital he attends in Germany he has received less than encouraging responses to his worrying symptoms. “One time I arrived and they told me to leave if I didn’t need a bed,” she said.

On another occasion, she faced repetitive episodes of intense vomiting, which led her to seek urgent medical attention, only to be dismissed with the response that “stomach pains are no reason to go to the emergency room.”
