Luka Modric stops Mbappé and ends up on Messi’s side in the Euro Cup and World Cup debate: “I don’t like to compare”

A controversy recently broke out between the Argentine Lionel Messi and the Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, who have come out to say which tournament is, for them, the most difficult at the national team level.

The first to heat up the arena was the new signing of Real Madrid, who assured that the Euro Cup is more difficult than a World Cup.

In turn, Messi, who just won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar facing Mbappé in the final, responded and pointed out that, Although the Euro may have its difficulties, it cannot be harder than a world championship where Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay are presentteams that have 10 world titles.

“Everyone gives importance to the competition they play. Obviously, The Eurocup is a very important competition, where the best are, but it is leaving Argentina out, three-time world champion, Brazil, five times world champion, and Uruguay, two-time champion. There are too many world champions out there to say that it is the most difficult. In the World Cup there are the best, all the world champions, generally, for a reason everyone wants to be a world champion,” was the Inter Miami player’s response to what the Frenchman said.

Luka Modrić entered the controversy between Messi and Mbappé

In the midst of this tug of war between Messi and Mbappé, the figure of the Croatian national team, Luka Modrić was also consulted and, just before his debut against Spain, he sided with the Argentine, pointing out that the World Cup is much more complicated of win.

“I don’t like to compare. In the Euro Cup there are matches with teams from Europe, but in the World Cup you have Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and teams from other continents. I don’t like to compare, but for me the World Cup is more difficult, because everyone plays, with teams from all over the world,” was the opinion given by the Croatian to ESPN.

Modrićfocused on the duel against Spain

Regarding his debut against Spain, the Croatian figure said that “this new generation” of the Spanish team “is very strong and full of talent”, on the eve of facing La Roja during the first day of Group B of the Euro Cup .

“I don’t like to compare different generations of players, really. The team that won the European Championship twice and the World Cup was a special generation of players, one of the best in the history of football. It is difficult to compare them, but this new generation is very strong and full of talent,” Modrić commented at a press conference from the Olympic stadium in Berlin.

Despite the praise, the Real Madrid player showed ambition. “We all want to play against great teams like Spain and we are looking forward to playing this match. We have faced them a couple of times and we know them well. We know that the details are going to be important, we have to give our best version and take care of the details. “We never get bored of playing against great teams,” he said.
