Although many players used the mechanic in their games, it will finally become official with the new edition of Dungeons and Dragons

It is well known that Baldur’s Gate 3 has revolutionized the RPG genre in the world of video games. However, the acclaimed title from Larian Studios is also causing changes in the game it comes from: Dungeons and Dragons. Wizards of the Coast, owners of the D&D brand, are finalizing the details for the launch of a new edition that, although it allows adapting many of the mechanics seen so far, also presents totally new rules. And, it seems, those responsible for this set of rules have decided to implement an idea so widespread among players that it is already part of the 2023 GOTY.

We talked about the possibility of using a potion as a bonus action. As you well remember from Dexerto, current Dungeons and Dragons rules force players to use a full action if they want to take advantage of a potion’s benefits; something that prevents you from using spells, attacking, or performing other maneuvers in the same turn. However, Wizards of the Coast has announced that this will change with the new Player’s Handbook, as it will give the possibility of consume any elixir in a complementary way to the movements we want to make in a turn.

In fact, This option is not exactly new in the D&D community. Many players have implemented the use of potions as a bonus action in their games, since it is something that can be agreed upon in advance with the campaign DM. Additionally, well-known Dungeons and Dragons groups like Critical Role have popularized this change by adding it to their respective stories.

The new Dungeons and Dragons Player’s Handbook will arrive in September

Be that as it may, we are now talking about a rule that will be fully official in just a few months. Wizards of the Coast has already announced that the Player’s Handbook for the new edition of Dungeons and Dragons will be available starting next month. September, 17th. In addition, and as is customary in the board game, this book will be followed by other important volumes (Dungeon Master’s Manual and Monster Manual) that will be released between 2024 and 2025.
