Mastercard improves the payment experience in the Red Expres store of the Tienda Inglesa Group with partners Ingenico, Fujitsu Frontech and Scanntech

Uruguay | June 3, 2024 – Mastercard today announced the expansion of its global Biometric Payment Program (Biometric Checkout Program or BCO) in Latin America. With Ingenico, Fulcrum Biometrics, Fujitsu Frontech and Scanntech as partners, Mastercard has launched an innovative biometric payment experience on Tienda Inglesa’s Red Expres in Uruguay. This is the first pilot of the Biometric Payment Program that allows buyers to pay with the palm of their hand and the second pilot of the program in Latin America.

Red Expres shoppers can register their details, payment credentials and biometrics in-store and pay for their purchases effortlessly by placing their hand over a sensor at the payment terminal. The Biometric Payment Program allows you to speed up payment and reduce lines at the checkout, in addition to integrating with loyalty programs, which translates into an improved and personalized customer experience.

“We are excited to expand our Biometric Payment Program even further in Latin America with the launch of our pilot program on Red Expres,” said Federico Cofman, cluster leader for Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay at Mastercard.. “Consumers are looking for more options in how they pay, and through our collaborative innovation, we can offer more seamless and secure payment experiences.”

The Mastercard Biometric Payment Program represents a pioneering technological framework to set standards for new ways to pay in stores. A cutting-edge payment system, developed by Ingenico and Fulcrum Biometrics – a Fujitsu company – allows participants in the pilot project to record palm biometric data and link it to any debit, prepaid or credit card, allowing them to pay seamlessly and without a wallet or device.
