The University of Atacama (UDA) had the honor of hosting for the first time the meeting of the Chilean Society of Anatomy (SCHA), an event that brought together prominent professionals in the area to share advances and knowledge in the field of human anatomy. .

The event, which took place last Saturday, April 27 in the Auditorium Hall of the Department of Geology, had the participation of a hundred people in person and more than 240 online views through the UDA Television YouTube Channel.

The SCHA meeting at the UDA became a conducive space for the exchange of knowledge and updating of knowledge in the area of ​​anatomy. The conferences by Pía Smok and Viviana Toro, prominent researchers in the discipline, generated great interest among attendees, who were able to delve deeper into topics such as forensic anatomy and scientific research in the discipline.

This is how the speaker of the first talk of the program commented, Pía Smok, medical examiner and academic at the UDA Faculty of Medicine: “It was a very enriching experience. I was very pleased to find an auditorium practically full and with many questions, both in person and online. The boys’ interest was more technical than I expected, with complex questions. “I was pleasantly surprised by the interest of the Atacama students in the field of forensic anatomy,” added the doctor.

Regarding the meeting and the talks that supported the scientific event, the third-year medical student, Valentina Pinto, considered it important to hold the anatomy session at the UDA, since it allows them to publicize their career: “For me it has been been something important and very interesting. The exhibitors who came are renowned people and it is very important and very cool that they were able to come to Atacama.”

For the academic of the UDA Faculty of Medicine and organizer of the activity, Ricardo Miranda Krause, the meeting represented an important milestone for the academic community: “It made it possible to demonstrate the importance of linking with highly prestigious scientific societies such as the SCHA, to continue contributing and paying tribute to mission axes of teaching, research and connection with the environment,” he stated.

The SCHA directors who traveled from different corners of the country, from Arica to Puerto Montt, representing eight public and private institutions, valued the organization and reception by our institution, emphasizing the large number of in-person attendees that exceeded 110 people and more than 240 views on the UDA TV channel. In this sense, I would like to thank Dr. Pía Smok and Dr. Viviana Toro who delighted us with their presentations, our rectorship and through them the Academic Vice-Chancellors and VRIP for their presence and support, in addition to the companies that stood out for their collaboration in the logistics of the event.
