In what they have called a strike “for the right to security, to life, to people’s property and to safe free mobility”, a group of transporters have blocked, since early this Friday, the road that connects the municipalities of Albania and Maicao.

The transport union justifies the protest on the highway that connects the center with the north of La Guajira, given the wave of insecurity of which both drivers and road users, travelers and even tourists are constantly victims.

In the call that the leaders of the demonstrations made to all the transporters, they argue that the problem has been of “little importance by the Departmental Government and the Mayor’s Offices of Maicao and Albania”, which have not heeded the call of the union and the community in general”.

They demand security guarantees in the road corridor between Cuestecita, Albania, Carraipía, Maicao and Los Haticos (San Juan del Cesar).

According to the drivers, the following frequently occur: robberies, murders, damage to vehicles, causing accidents, mistreatment of people, kidnappings and charges for vaccinations.

They assure that despite the security councils where this scourge is addressed and actions are taken, the commitment of a road squad and the reinforcement of Public Force personnel, they do not see improvements in this situation of insecurity.
