The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, addressed this Thursday the situation of two Iranian citizens who escaped from Chile despite having a national roots order. These individuals were arrested in April 2023 at the Santiago International Airport for carrying false passports.
The Government authority revealed that the whereabouts of these fugitives are known, telling T13 that “the place where they are located has been identified”.

These Iranian citizens had transited through several countries before arriving in Chile with their final destination in England. However, They were discovered at the Chilean airport with falsified documents, which resulted in his arrest and accusation for falsification of a public instrument.
Along these lines, the undersecretary explained that, despite the precautionary measures instructed by the Public Ministry, these were not sufficiently monitored, thus allowing the escape of the individuals in question. Monsalve emphasized the seriousness of the matter by stating that “They flouted the precautionary measures.” imposed.
It should be noted that after being formalized in May 2023, these individuals were under preventive detention until said measure was changed to partial house arrest and national roots. However, in September of that same year, traces of the Iranian citizens were lost, and they finally managed to escape the country.
