Following the good example initially set by Medellín, the municipality of Copacabana, its neighbor to the north of the Aburrá Valley, has just announced the beginning of the listening channels strategy to preserve the mental health of its inhabitants. In this case, the program is called “We listen to you” and will provide free psychological care to the entire community.

The listening ground or place where Anyone can come to receive guidance. This field was located in the Educational Complex. of the municipality (Calle 50 #39 – 203), where the Tecnológico de Antioquia operates.

This headquarters begins to function with that purpose in a Hours between 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Likewise, “We listen to you” has a mental health hotline, 3145676380, Monday to Monday and from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, where trained professionals in the area will be ready to collaborate with whoever requires them.

We invite you to read: Medellín will have 33 new listening points, what will they be like and where to find them?

“For the municipal administration, mental health is extremely important; That is why we have a supremely powerful strategy, where we want to accompany them, guide them and activate routes in a timely manner“, spokespeople from the Copacabana Mayor’s Office expressed in a statement.

The strategy is aimed at anyone who feels overwhelmed, anxious, depressed or just need someone to talk to. Of course, this is a confidential and free consultation; For in-person consultations, an appointment is required.

A similar strategy has already been in operation since several years ago in Medellín and was especially reinforced by the mental havoc produced by the covid-19 pandemic and the confinement that it brought. In this case, it operates under the name How is life going?, which is executed by the Secretariats of Citizen Culture, Health and Youth, in alliance with the Medellín Metro and the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley.

We also recommend: In Medellín, 10 Listeners and the Healthy Friendly Friends Line are active for mental health care

Beneficiaries receive general information and mental health screenings; Then, based on the results, they are sent to health services or, if necessary, immediate care routes are activated.

So far the results have been so good that it crossed the barrier of the previous municipal administration and, in fact, in the new mayor’s office of Federico Gutiérrez, last May, they announced the opening of 33 new listening holes.

These spaces are being enabled in all the city’s communes, but there are also others in metro stations and some mobile phones in order to reach more of the population that requires it.

Additionally, we suggest: “Parents can devastate the mental health of young people”: President-elect of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry

The District already had a dozen of these spaces, located at strategic points such as the subway stations, the North Terminal, the Retail Plaza and several townships, now the objective is for this strategy to expand throughout the territory.

Outside of individual consultations, the program provides care to couples, families and multiple population groups such as the LGTBIQ+ community and indigenous communities.
