Province made official the incorporation of the Unique Coordinating Center for Ablation and Implant (CUCAI) Chubut under the orbit of the Ministry of Health. The decision was reflected in a resolution signed by the Secretary of Health, Sergio Wisky, which highlights that the mission of this program is to guarantee access to the transplant of organs, tissues and cells, to all people who have a medical indication.

With this decision, the aim is to facilitate entry into the waiting lists of the National Central Single Ablation and Implant Coordinating Institute (INCUCAI) and to promote the integration of donation and transplant activity in the province’s hospitals.

During the signing of the documentation carried out in Rawson, Wisky was accompanied by the Undersecretary of Public Health, Sergio Jaime; the head of CUCAI Chubut, Caren Goddio; and the reference for Post-transplant monitoring, Habilitations and Medication, Carmen Iannotti.

“Manage our own response”

The Undersecretary of Public Health, Sergio Jaime, referred to the signing of this resolution and highlighted the importance of the creation of the CUCAI Chubut Program within the structure of the provincial Health Secretariat.

“Before, CAIPAT was a delegation of INCUCAI at the national level, and now, as of this resolution, there is a program called CUCAI Chubut, which depends on the Ministry of Health of the province,” Jaime explained.

The provincial official also appreciated that in this way we will be able to “manage our own response” and define the allocation of resources in a more effective and autonomous manner.

In addition, he highlighted that there are policies, such as those of the Procurement Services of the Comodoro Rivadavia Regional Hospital and the Trelew Zonal Hospital, that allow the process of organ donation and transplantation to be improved, and other issues, such as the active search for patients with chronic kidney failure before they reach the transplant stage.

Since 2004, first through CAIPAT and then CUCAI Chubut, the province has been carrying out supervision and development tasks of all processes related to the procurement and transplantation of organs, tissues and cells in the province. However, until now there was no formal administrative act that created a program or body of this type at the provincial level.
