Homes and establishments closed due to civic strike in the Caribbean Trunk

The populations of the Santa Marta district, which have grown along the Caribbean trunk, are the main drivers of the strike.

As a solitary town, that is the perception that is currently observed in the towns located in the municipality of Dibulla, on the road that leads from the department of La Guajira to Magdalena.

The situation arose following a statement issued by the Self-Defense Conquistadores de la Sierra Nevada group, who stated in writing to the entire community the cessation of all activities in the banana zone of the peninsula, as well as the non-passage of land vehicles. and aquatic, with the exception of ambulances, the non-operation of service stations in the rural and urban areas of the municipality and the prohibition of any public event or pastoring of churches.

Due to the above, the frightened community remains under the roof of their homes, the schools are closed and those who intend to travel through the sector are not allowed to pass, and must turn back or get out of the vehicle and walk towards their destination.

Several videos and audios circulate on social networks and instant messaging, where strangers express to locals that “Do not be seen, until the strike is over, whoever fails to comply with this will put their life at risk”.

At the moment the Caribbean Trunk remains guarded by members of the Army and National Police, the governor of La Guajira, Jairo Aguilar Deluque, spoke out about the situation and made a call to the National Government “We have to have an intelligence presence from the Ministry of Defense, so that, in coordination with us, the governors, they can provide an immediate solution to the community.”.
