An attack with a motorcycle bomb disturbed the tranquility of the center of Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, resulting in at least six injuries, one of them seriously.

A young man between 22 and 25 years old has been detained by the authorities on suspicion of being involved in this incident.

According to military intelligence reports, several WhatsApp messages have been intercepted that would contain instructions related to carrying out the attack.

These messages, still subject to verification, reveal a conversation that began at 7:07 am with an informal greeting, shortly before the explosive was detonated.

The conversation shows some uncertainty on the part of the person at the scene about the actions to follow, who from another point of view is advised to wait and consume a soft drink in the meantime.

The exchanges also suggest that the objective of the attack was to impact security forces, with cryptic messages about the presence or absence of police or military.

The detained individual was found by the community, who alerted the police due to his suspicious behavior near the site of the attack. This young man was found in possession of the phone from which said messages were sent.

General Jorge Urquijo, commander of Police Region 4, indicated that the suspect’s apprehension was possible thanks to the collaboration of the community and that verifications are currently being carried out to determine his possible connection with the attack.

Among those injured by the explosion is a 57-year-old Venezuelan citizen, who has long been caring for motorcycles and cars at the scene of the incident, as well as a lieutenant and a patrol officer who were passing through in a mobile unit.

The mayor of Jamundí, Paola Andrea Castillo, has expressed her concern about security in the municipality and has requested the Government’s intervention on multiple occasions.
