Cuba denounces US intention to suffocate Venezuelan economy

Havana, June 15 (ACN) Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, denounced today the intention of the United States (USA) to strip Venezuela of the Citgo Oil Cooperation.

In his X account, the Cuban Foreign Minister assured that this measure is part of Washington’s strategy to suffocate the Venezuelan economy and defeat the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution.

He stated that the American attitude is a clear violation of International Law.

“We denounce the repeated intention of the US government to strip #Venezuela of its company CITGO, in clear violation of International Law. This measure is part of Washington’s strategy to suffocate the Venezuelan economy and defeat the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution.”

Last Tuesday, the deadline for receiving offers in a second round of bidding opened by the United States federal court handling the Citgo Petroleum case ended.

From that moment on, the auction of shares of the parent company of the refiner Citgo Petroleum, a subsidiary of the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), which has its headquarters in Houston, Texas, began.

Venezuela demands the US federal court to stop the process of selling the shares of Citgo Petroleum, owned by the South American nation.

In 1990, Venezuela completed the purchase of Citgo, a company that currently controls three refineries, markets gasoline, and also owns several petrochemical plants in the United States.
