The difficulties in reaching an agreement between the mayor’s office and the Inpec directives in Cúcuta have once again closed the possibility of police stations becoming decongested as a result of this administrative procedure.

Carlos Ramos, a lawyer representing the prison unions, told Caracol Radio that “a commitment to institutionality is required, today the situation is very complex and serious because we have more than 479 people in the police stations who should be in jail.”

He indicated that “there is an urgent need to transfer two or three hundred people to other prisons to be able to begin taking the personnel of those who are in these places, but today the doors are closed and every day a high number of people are prosecuted that the authorities do not have access to.” “where to take them.”

He explained that despite the interest of the judicial authorities and Inpec to work on a mechanism that allows the system to be decongested, there is no “light” that allows them to have the tools to try to solve a problem as serious as this.

Finally, he pointed out that currently there are more than three thousand five hundred people deprived of their liberty in the prison establishment.
