The Government of Nariño and the National Highway Institute (INVIAS) They have moved yellow machinery to the affected area. However, constant rainfall has prevented the continuation of debris removal efforts.

Gabriel Osejo, Secretary of Infrastructure, reported that it is expected that material removal and lifting activities can resume tomorrow. Meanwhile, the road to the Tumaco District remains closed, which has created difficulties for traffic in the area.

Affectations on the Pasto-Tumaco National Highway

The intense rains in the Coastal Foothills of Nariño have affected the Pasto-Tumaco National Highway, causing landslides, stone falls and the overflowing of streams. The landslides in the Ospina Pérez sector, in Ricaurte, have hindered the work of the machinery operators present in the area.

Transporters and drivers are called upon to exercise caution when traveling on this road, since in many sectors there is only one lane. At the moment, the road is closed while work is being done to remove debris.

National Support for the Victims in Nariño

The Administrative Directorate of Disaster Risk Management (DAGRD) has received significant national support to address the emergencies caused by the winter wave in Nariño. The intense rains have affected several towns, leaving 9,000 victims so far.

The National Federation of Departments has delivered 780 hygiene, food and kitchen kits to the DAGRD, which will be distributed to affected families in 34 municipalities. Coordination between municipal management and administrative management is essential to carry out censuses and distribute aid efficiently.

Gabriel Ocaña, director of the Risk Management Unit, has urged local administrations to activate rain risk management plans, valid until August. These measures include the preventive relocation of homes and the identification of material damage, so that the DAGRD can provide the necessary support.
