According to the minister, who recently passed a motion of censure in the Chamber due to the results of the new health model for teachers, he assured that the parliamentary, citizen and union majorities agree with a reform of the health system.

“It is up to us, in this forum, to also listen to the community again, to ask them what we have already managed to reach a consensus on and of course, to wait to be able to sit down, most especially, with the Seventh Committee of the Senate and look at what other things are fundamental, important, so that they are included,” explained Jaramillo.

The event was held for around 5 hours at the Rafael Carrillo Lúquez departmental library with the participation of the government of Cesar and the municipality of Valledupar, as well as representatives of institutions, workers, unions and organizations from the health sector of this department, but also La Guajira and Magdalena.

This day was also planned for Cúcuta, Bogotá, Pereira, Tunja, Cali, Medellín, Cartagena and Neiva. “We have the country divided by important sectors, we have the Caribbean in two regions, this is the first region, the next region is going to be the coffee axis and we are going to continue like this until before July 20, where we hope to be able to sit down again with parliament,” added the senior official.

PRIMARY CARE AND MANAGERS WITH MERITS

Regarding the points that will be maintained in the reform project, the doctor stated that “everyone has the opinion that the model should be based on primary care, that is, that it be a preventive, decisive model and as stated: direct turn, vertical integration plan, the transformation of the EPS, the Government’s commitment to pay the outstanding debts of the EPS that went bankrupt.”

Based on the interventions of Caesarenses, Guajiros and Magdalenenses and the background on the matter, the Petro Government spokesperson made reference to the citizens’ proposal that hospital managers be chosen based on merit, since many voices complained about the politicization of these positions and the poor results in the majority of these public institutions.

GOVERNOR OF CESAR DEFENDED THE PRIVATE NETWORK

In turn, the governor of Cesar, Elvia Milena Sanjuán, maintained that her administration is “riding” with the national government in what it favors in terms of health and the strengthening of the public hospital network, but she also defended the private sector, the which was an ally to face the coronavirus pandemic in the region, he commented.

“We had a great helper in that difficult moment, minister, and today, in addition to asking him for his urgent responsibility to support and strengthen the public network, I must also raise my voice for the private network,” Sanjuán exclaimed.

“We would not have been able to address the public calamity of the pandemic if the private network had not been available for us from the departmental government; “This is the moment to recognize that as a team we can do great things, that the Cesar department wants to overcome the crisis, but we also long for it to be done with justice and social equity,” the official reiterated.
