The Mayor’s Office of Santa Marta, through the Ministry of Health, reported that in epidemiological week 24 of this year, a total of 398 cases of dengue have been reported in the city.

According to the epidemiological behavior according to the endemic channel, the District is in an alert situation, compared to historical behavior.

When comparing the cases with the same week from 2019 to 2023, in which an average of 353 total cases of dengue had been reported, there is a difference of 45 cases higher in 2024.

At the country level, 185,751 cases have been reported, with the District of Santa Marta contributing 0.2% of the total cases of Dengue, being below the national average and the incidence presented by the Districts of Cartagena and Barranquilla.

Within the framework of prevention and control actions for arboviruses (Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika), the Vector-Transmitted Diseases (VTE) program of the District Health Secretary, different activities have been developed.

One of the first was the visits to 499 homes in the neighborhoods of localities 1, 2 and 3 of the District of Santa Marta, where the care that should be taken was indicated, the residents of the sectors were instructed on the implementation of protective practices and the identification of possible breeding sites for Aedes Aegypti, impacting approximately 2,110 inhabitants.

On the other hand, chemical control of Dengue vectors was carried out in the different neighborhoods of the Santa Marta District, treating 243 water tanks, while thirteen commercial establishments were visited.
