The rural sector of the municipalities of Rionegro and Matanza, Santander, is in mourning after a tragic accident that claimed the life of a farmer from that region of the province of Soto Norte.

The victim was Pedro Contreras Mendoza, a 50-year-old farmer, known as ‘Luchito’ and who worked on different farms in that area of ​​the department.

The accident occurred at 5:40 in the afternoon, this Sunday, June 23, in the El Paujil district, in the La Capilla sector. The public service vehicle involved was a bus from the Lusitania company with plates XVJ-856 that was traveling on the rural road.

What happened is a matter of investigation, however, the Matanza Police inspector, Elder Ferney Oviedo Gómez, assured Q’hubo that it would have been an accident when Contreras Mendoza got off the bus and fell on the rear tires.

“The bus was going from Rionegro to the Vega Grande village in Matanza. Pedro Contreras was the last passenger and asked the driver for a stop. “Apparently, he would have consumed intoxicating beverages before getting on the public transport vehicle,” the official said.

When ‘Luchito’ got off the bus, the driver continued his journey and when starting off, in facts that are the subject of investigation, the passenger lost stability and was hit by the rear tires.

“We maintain that it was a traffic accident, the deceased requested the stop stating that he was going to a farm in the sector. He got off and went to the back of the bus. The driver said he heard a bang and when he got out to look he saw the unfortunate scene. As an inspection, we carry out urgent actions and leave the case at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office so that they can carry out the pertinent investigations,” said Oviedo Gómez.

The body of Pedro Contreras Mendoza was transferred to the morgue of the Institute of Legal Medicine in Bucaramanga where his relatives carried out the procedures for the funeral that would take place in the municipality of Rionegro.

‘Luchito’ as he was known by those close to him, it has been stated that he was a very collaborative person and that he worked in the field as a day laborer.
