In a debate held in the Assembly of the department of Nariño, deputies analyzed the effects of the shortage of Aguardiente Nariño, due to delays in the disposal process of approximately eight hundred thousand bottles, so that they reach the sales sites.

Deputy Fabio Zarama told Caracol Radio that the shortage of the product affects not only the department’s income but has opened the door to the entry of smuggled and adulterated liquor.

Hence, he requested speed in the process for the sale, which was approved by Ordinance by the Assembly last April. Likewise, he requested that a decision be made regarding the maquila contract that is about to expire.

According to the departmental administration, in the process being carried out to contract the sale of Nariño liquor, some inconsistencies were found in the inventory.

On June 28, it is planned to review the eight offers that applied to acquire 30 lots and between July 2 and 4 they would be awarded to the bidders for the contracting process.

The presidency of the Corporation suggested the implementation of a strategy that would allow liquor from the department to reach stores and establishments and avoid speculation.

Create a liquor industry again?

Some members of the Nariño Assembly have raised the possibility of the department once again manufacturing its own liquor, today in the hands of the Cundinamarca liquor industry; however, there are those who do not agree with the proposal.

Deputy Berner Zambrano disagreed with the initiative, in his opinion the model that is managed through the maquila is more profitable for the department, however it is necessary to carry out a study to determine the viability.

He added that in the face of the shortage of Nariño brandy The outlook is not encouraging, since according to the current schedule, the product would only arrive to buyers at the end of July, which suggests that it would take even longer for retailers in establishments.

This situation would hit the income of the department and the sectors that are financed with these resources, taking into account that 34% of the sale goes to the health sector, 14% to the education sector, and 3% to sports.

“Not having the product by this date would imply a reduction in rent for this concept of up to 50%.” Zambrano also questioned where the units of Nariño brandy that were sold during the Pasto Name Day came from, if the product has not been officially put on the market.
