The president of Bolivia, Luis Arce Catacora, denounced this Wednesday irregular mobilizations of Bolivian military units in the city of La Paz, Telesur reports.

Through the social network X, the head of state stated: “We denounce irregular mobilizations of some units of the Bolivian Army. Democracy must be respected.”

Images broadcast through teleSUR show around eight military tanks inside which armed uniformed men can be seen.

Citizens have mobilized to Plaza Murillo to avoid a constitutional break and shouted “coup plotters, coup plotters.” In this place are also the headquarters of the House of the People, the Plurinational Legislative Assembly and the Bolivian Chancellery.

The Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo, appeared there and tried to communicate with members of one of the military vehicles, inside which was the General Commander of the Army, General Juan José Zúñiga.

Del Castillo tried to find out who gave the order to move the military contingent and asked Zúñiga for explanations.

«Demobilize Zúñiga, it is going to be worse. “You’re on time, Zúñiga, demobilize,” Minister Del Castillo told General Zúñiga.

According to teleSUR correspondent Freddy Morales, there are a large number of soldiers in Plaza Murillo. They have closed the entrances to this area and are preventing journalists from working. Many of the soldiers are hooded.

Bolivia was the scene of a coup d’état in November 2019. It was organized by the US and the local right with the complicity of the Organization of American States (OAS).

According to Telesur correspondents, in the place where the military has taken Plaza Murillo, they have stationed tanks at the entrance to this square to prevent social organizations and citizens who had gathered at 3 o’clock to defend democracy from entering the place. .

The unusual military mobilization movement developed by General Zúñuga has already been described by the country’s authorities and other actors as an attempted coup d’état.

In previous statements Zúñiga said he was demanding the renewal of the entire cabinet. In addition, he has ordered the imprisonment of all military personnel in the country, since he has ordered the Armed Forces to remain in emergency, reports Telesur.

He is in a Cabinet meeting in which the Police Commander participates
