50 marathons, 50 countries, 50 days: Rubén Muñoz’s challenge reaches the cinema

Extremaduran athlete Rubén Martínez is back in the news after the feat he achieved in 2019 when he managed to complete 50 marathons in 50 countries for 50 days in a row. A whole story of improvement that now becomes valid again after it has been made into a film.

Since last June 14 you can now enjoy ’50, El Documental’ on the Filmin platformthe film produced by The Invisible Films and directed by FA Jiménez, which reflects the adventure of Rubén Muñoz, his preparation and how this incredible challenge was experienced in the athlete’s environment.

An adventure in which Muñoz completed more than 2,100 kilometers and for which he was preparing for more than 12 months. Muñoz himself points out in the documentary that although he did not like running, he decided to face this challenge, which many considered crazy. “I wanted to do something big between the life I have and the jump to a new life, but I didn’t know what. They didn’t believe me, but I stated it again, that I was going to run 50 marathons. Every day there was a different person telling me I wasn’t going to make it.”

FA Jiménez, director of the documentary, also details the reasons why he decided to bring Rubén Muñoz’s challenge to the screen. “This documentary is about someone who wanted to destroy that famous cage of monotony that we all know and launch himself into living the life he always wanted to live and be free through a unique and genuine challenge that only he believed possible. Feeling dream of his destiny and unwavering in the face of any adversity that awaited him along the way, which were many throughout his 50 marathons, as you will soon discover. I decided to break my cage to make this documentary and break away from what was established, regarding what I myself expected of myself. It is not always comfortable or easy, but I never want to have to regret it.”
