The head of the United States Southern Command (Southcom)general Laura Richardsonbegan a visit to Chile on June 11 to hold bilateral meetings and address mutual challenges in Defending between both countries of America.

According to Southcom social media, General Richardson will meet with key Chilean leaders to discuss security cooperation. For Southcom, the South American country is a respected partner and a vital contributor to regional security.

In his first activity in the country, the military, in the company of the United States ambassador in Santiago, Bernadette Meehanheld a protocol meeting with the Minister of National defense From Chile, Maya Fernandezand the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (Jemco) of Chile, vice admiral Pablo Niemann.

It should be noted that his visit coincides with the arrival to the country of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 10 led by the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN-73) and integrated by the destroyer USS Porter (DDG-78) and the supply ship USNS John Lenthall (T-AO-189)and they carry out the exercise Southern Seas 2024 with the National Squad of the Chilean Navy.

In this regard, the US military authority indicated: “We want to express our gratitude to Chile for its participation in Southern Seas and for receiving so cordially the USS George Washington in the beautiful port of Valparaíso.”
